7 Easy Ways to Make Your Videos More Aesthetic
Have you ever looked at a video you’re scrolling by and think,
“How did they make their video look like that??” 🤔
The truth is, super simple tweaks can make your videos more engaging by tenfold, and easier to watch!
Here’s how to elevate the aesthetic of your videos with minimal effort:
1. Focus on Story
What story are you telling?
Write down the main message of your video and go from there. This will guide your visual choices and keep your content focused.
A visually appealing video that also tells a compelling story keeps viewers engaged longer.
2. Gather Inspiration
When beginning with a new client, I ask, “What type of videos do you like?” and “What’s the look you’re going for?”
Look for channels that you love how they edit, and incorporate elements of what you love into your own style.
3. Stick to a Complimentary Color Palette
Choose to use colors throughout that complement what you’re wearing or the overall theme of your video, or even your brand colors!
Sometimes, matching text to your outfit can look great on screen.💅🏻
Consistent color palettes not only make your videos easier to edit but also create visual harmony that enhances the aesthetic appeal.
4. Limit Your Fonts
I like to use no more than two fonts throughout your videos.
This simplicity helps create a cohesive and professional look.
Again, being intentional with fonts make editing a lot easier, and aid in visual appeal.
5. Use Simple Transitions
Here’s a simple transition rule to remember!
Only use transitions when: (1) moving locations or (2) showing the passage of time.
Avoid overloading your video with transitions, as it can overwhelm viewers and actually detract from the aesthetic.
6. Use Natural Lighting
Natural light is your best friend when its filming time.
Position yourself near a window and use supplementary lighting like a ring light when it’s a cloudy day.
I will actually re-schedule filming if it’s not sunny! It’s not worth dark videos for my entire month (I like to batch film.)
7. Add Subtle Effects
Less is more when it comes to effects!
It’s easy to feel pressure to add cool effects to keep peoples attention, but too much can make it feel tacky.
Instead, focus on subtle effects that add value without overpowering your audience.
