What if I told you that you could cut your video editing time in half? 🎬

I’ve edited thousands of videos over the past 10 years, and I’ve DRASTICALLY cut down on editing time using these 6 tips alone!

Here are my top time-saving tips to help you speed up your video editing without sacrificing quality:

1. Pause While Filming ⏸️

Easier editing starts when you’re filming!

To make the edit easier, when you’re filming, if you mess up, make sure to pause before you start again. This gives you a clear cut point, making it easier to edit out mistakes. Not enough pauses makes the edit choppy and takes longer to cut.

Also, try to remember to slow down your speech to reduce the number of retakes and edits!

2. Custom Keyboard Shortcuts ⌨️

Create your own custom keyboard shortcuts based on your 4–5 most used editing actions!

For example, I use “S” to slow down footage by 50% because I am always slowing down footage. I use “B” for to cut clips, and so on.

Custom shortcuts turn what would have taken 4 clicks into just 1 click. This saves seconds that add up over time!

3. Project Templates 💾

Save time by saving project assets like: intros, outros, graphics, and other repetitive elements that you tend to use over and over.

Store these elements that you use on the daily on an external hard drive, so you can easily reuse them in future projects without starting from scratch!

4. Time Blocking ⏰

Set specific times for editing!

For example, I edit for 1 hour 3x a week. By time-blocking a few hours each week, you create boundaries that will actually enhance creativity and speed!

Also, if possible, film weeks in advance to give yourself ample time to edit gradually and with more ease.

5. Presets 🛟

Presets are lifesavers.

Whether it’s color grading or effects, develop a set of 5 to 10 presets that you love and use regularly.

For example: I have the same color filter I put on every one of my videos so all I need to do is tweak it depending on what I’m wearing and what the sun might be doing that day.

6. Post & Ghost 👻

After posting a video, leave!!!

No I’m just kidding. Do stick around for a bit to respond to comments, but avoid getting emotionally attached to your video’s performance! Don’t let vanity metrics dictate how you feel about your edits.

Focus on improving your skills with each edit and you will feel exponentially more motivated and fulfilled long-term!
