How to Consistently Create Content
5 Truths That Will Lead to A Perfect Content Strategy for YOU
1. Stick to a Sustainable Schedule
Creating a schedule that you can actually do is key. If that means you create 2 videos a month instead of 4, or 1 blog post a week instead of 5, do the minimum viable that works for your life right now, and also long-term. This will help you eliminate the chances of burnout, and it helps you find your optimal flow. Everyone’s business has a different content strategy, and not one is “right”, so do what’s best for you and your life, and that is what will be best for your business.
2. Sleep & Health = Creative Energy
Creative energy is another guest at the creation party that needs to be in attendance. If you can’t find your creative energy or muster up enough to be creating regularly, consider if sleeping more and elevating your overall health game is the culprit. It usually is, alongside cutting down on things that give you anxiety like caffeine, alcohol, and anything that drains your energy.
3. A Life Outside of Work
Here’s a secret I’ve discovered about the creative process: if you’re not doing interesting things, it’s harder to create interesting things. Maintaining hobbies, free time, and a life outside of your work is actually vital to your creative business. It’s not an option, it’s non-negotiable. Burnout can be a tricky bitch and this is one of the way it works itself into your life: by convincing you to not develop a life outside of work. But you will only elevate your life if you have balance!
4. Boundaries
Boundaries are something I didn’t learn until YEARS into my business, and it can truly be the difference between loving your job, and absolutely dreading it. I think a misconception with boundaries are that they will make you feel more “trapped”, but the reality is that they free you. Whether that means not responding to emails after a certain hour, truly taking weekends off, or saying no to projects that don’t align with your values (or prices), boundaries are essential for creatives. In the same way a basketball game needs rules in order to function and have freedom of expression within the game, so does every area of life, including your business. Boundaries are the yang to creative’s yin!
5. The Belief that Consistency *Actually* Works
I’m not just talking about consistently creating for “the algorithm”, instead, focus more on devoting yourself to consistency because it is the practice of your craft, and while we may not need a full 10,000 hours to become a master, the act of showing up for yourself and your creative endeavors always pays off in ways that you can’t see until you just…do it!
The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit. Be patient and stay the course. — Fabienne Fredrickson
This is why consistency (just like compound interest) works: Because gradually….and then suddenly. Things will fall into place. Creation becomes easier. You get better at making things. And then, suddenly, you find yourself in a whole new life; a life you couldn’t have dreamt up before because it’s so aligned. Your dream life will come down to showing up for yourself consistently, every day, in small ways that add up.
