Where to Find (Free) Cinematic B-Roll in 2023 🎬
Your Guide to the Top Sources for Quality B-Roll
In video editing, B-roll is the silent storyteller, providing depth and connection without a word.
I’ve been on the hunt for good b-roll since 2014 as a YouTube video editor.
One thing I’ve learned: Solid b-roll used to be REALLY hard to find.
Back in 2018, everything felt so “Stock.” Now, we have lots of afforable and quality options.
After 10 years of video editing, I think the most ideal b-roll is:
- beautifully shot (& slo-mo)
- has an extensive library to pick from (many options)
- doesn’t break the bank ($$)
🎬 And these three sites have consistently stood out:
1. Canva Pro: $12.95/month
This one came out of left field!
I didn’t expect Canva to have such an impressive b-roll library, but here we are!
Canva is easy to search, has great quality videos, and an extensive library.
Another perk is that Canva has a video background remover, so you can further edit b-roll and remove the background if you want.
2. Artgrid.io: Starting at $19.95/month
When it comes to QUALITY, Artlist.io is a personal favorite.
Artgrid.io is what I use mainly for client work, too. It’s profesh.
With a massive selection of beautifully shot B-roll, I promise you’ll never run out of options here.
3. Pexels: Free
One of my OG favorites is Pexels.
I’ve been using Pexels for years, and it’s consistently great.
Pexels offers a wide array of cinematic B-roll, completely free!
I love how you can search by Vertical or Widescreen orientation, and the videos are so good, I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell that they are free.
Choosing the right B-roll turns a simple edit into a compelling story.
B-roll adds texture, context, and a professional touch that can set your work apart.
Remember, in video editing, it’s often the subtle details like b-roll, that make the biggest difference. 🎥
